Dynamic Tango

Argentinean tango is the focus of this show-conference and the unusual lens through which we will look at it…it’s physics!

The history of Argentinean tango is uncertain and fascinating at the same time. Almost a century ago this dance led out in Buenos Aires, it was born thanks to the fusion and the mixture of the folk dances of the Italian and the Spanish people immigrated there, with the Argentinean and Uruguayan rhythms. Through times the dancing technique and the music developed and refined a lot. In this sense is natural to present specific physics topics (especially static and dynamics of bodies) along with the evolution of the tango technique. Every innovation in the dance can be easily associated to a theorem, a result or a dynamic variable in physics.Every part of the show-conference is introduced by a dance performance, in order to see and appreciate the differences within the dance technique, the style and - last, but not least- the musc.

During the conference some elements of the history of tango will be exposed, along with the stories of the characters who innovated and guided the steps of the community of the “tangueros” in Argentina and all over the world; the public will be brought inside the curious parallel between this dance and physics and fascinated by the philosophy of tango, its rhythms, its music, its passion.

The conference will take about 90′/120′, depending on the available time. The participation of the public is guaranteed by the fact that Argentinean tango is a very fascinating and sensual dance and thanks to this element, it’s possible to insert relaxing moments within a conference, which aim is to explain some physics principles and that could be boring if hold with an academic approach.
